An Iraq war veteran and National Guardsman Jared Martin awoke at 3 AM to strange sounds coming from his garage. Martin, a concealed weapons owner, grabbed his firearm and went to investigate. Martin saw a bag that had previously been stolen from his property next to a bicycle. He spotted an intruder and ordered the man to step into the light of the garage.
The suspect told Martin he couldn’t go back to jail and ran off. Martin, who had already lost hundreds of dollars in possessions ran after the man in pursuit. Martin managed to grab the man by the hoodie and drag him back to the house. Where he held him at gunpoint and waited for the police to arrive. The suspect is being charged with multiple thefts, and Martin will not be charged for acting in self-defense.
