A Michigan man set up real time monitoring software to look after his 98 year-old grandmother who was both deaf and blind, and panicked when the device went offline. When he went over to her house he discovered that the house had been broken into and that the laptop along with other possessions were stolen. He decided to grab his rifle and stay the night with his grandmother, who hadn’t realized that a break in occurred.
At 4 AM, he heard a loud knock at the door followed by the burglars forcing open the door. The grandson fired and missed as the suspects fled. He ran outside in pursuit and fired again, striking one of the suspects who then drove himself to a local hospital. Police have arrested the suspect and will press charges. The grandson will not be charged for his self-defense.
