What Does It Sound Like To Get Hit With A .50-caliber Bullet?

We all know what a gunshot sound like from the firing line, but what does a bullet hits a target and backer, when the gun itself is 400 yards away?

After watching the video twice, I’m guessing—and only guessing—that the “gunshot” sound at the target is the sound of the concrete block he’s using to prop up the meat exploding from the impact.

I’d be curious in seeing this experiment repeated without any sort of target backer, with the meat suspended from a frame by string or wires. I suspect it will still make a significant amount of noise, but that it will be a meaty thwack instead of an explosion.
