DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors say an off-duty Philadelphia police officer was acting in self-defense when she shot and wounded her husband in the driveway of their suburban home last month.

The Bucks County district attorney’s office said Wednesday that 27-year-old David Perez has been charged with stalking and simple assault in the April 18 confrontation in Northampton Township.

Prosecutors said the officer “had been threatened and physically assaulted by her husband in the past” and fired once, hitting Perez in the abdomen, “only after being assaulted yet again, and only after she reasonably concluded that her life was in immediate danger.”

The defendant is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 11 on the misdemeanor charges; court documents don’t list a defense attorney and a listed number for him couldn’t be found Wednesday.
