All You Need for Self Defense Is A Phone? NRA Launches Ad Buy Against Hillary Clinton

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has a new ad, “Nightstand,” that illustrates what a Hillary Clinton presidency would do to the Second Amendment. Her presidency would leave each and every one of us defenseless.

In the ad, a burglar breaks into a woman’s home. She goes to reach for her phone to call 9-1-1 as she reaches for her gun in a nearby gun safe, which suddenly disappears.

“She’ll call 9-1-1. Average response time? 11 minutes,” the narrator says. “Don’t let Hillary leave you protected with nothing but a phone.”

The NRA is spending $5 million dollars on this ad in an ad buy that is designed to get pro-Second Amendment supporters to the polls to vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.

The NRA’s Political Victory Fund will spend $2.5 million of in five swing states – Ohio, Nevada, Virginia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), the lobbying side of the NRA, will spend the other $2.5 million on a national television ad buy.

Although the ad doesn’t directly mention Donald Trump, the NRA has endorsed the presidential candidate and their messaging regarding Hillary Clinton on guns has remained similar.

During a rally in Miami on Friday, Trump called for Hillary’s bodyguards to disarm themselves, the same way she wants to disarm the average American citizen.

“Take their guns away. She doesn’t want guns … let’s see what happens to her. Take their guns away, OK? It’d be very dangerous,” Trump said.
