It’s no secret. Gunnies love shooting rare and obscure firearms. And there’s a range dedicated to the rare and exotic firearms every gunnie wants to shoot at least once in their lifetime.

The Outback Park and Public Shooting Range, located outside of McPherson, Kansas, has an array of firearms that the average person wouldn’t normally be able t

o get their hands on, like the Tommy Gun, RPK 7.62 x 39 and 37mm Grenade Launcher.

According to the range’s owner, Chuck Harter, people from all over the world stop by. The thrill of exotic guns intrigues people, to the point where Harter caters to bachelorette parties, birthday parties and divorce parties.

Last fall, members of the Royal Canadian Air Force stopped by while training in Witchita. Since the range was founded in 1997, people from all over the world have visited the range. He’s had guests from Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France and Italy take an interest in his rare pieces.

Locals seem to be fond of the range but wish it wasn’t so far of a drive.

“Everybody says, ‘I wish the (range) were closer to Wichita or to Salina,’ and I say ‘Why? We wouldn’t be able to do half the things we do out here in the boondocks if you’re close to town,’” Harter told The Wichita Eagle. “Half the things we do will scare McPherson.”
