Open carry advocate running for re-election in Arkansas

State Rep. Sue Scott, R-Rogers, announced Thursday (Oct. 3) she is seeking re-election to a second two-year term in House District 95.

“I’ve been a conservative voice and if lucky enough to be re-elected, I will continue to insist on smaller government and fewer regulations,” she said in a news release.

During the 2013 session, Scott attempted to pass legislation that would have allowed Arkansans to carry handguns openly in holsters, but two of her open-carry bills, which faced opposition from House Speaker Davy Carter, R-Cabot, died in committee.

Scott is running against a Republican trucking company CEO and National Guardsman named Dane Zimmerman in a May 2014 primary.
