Cook County sheriff hopes to obstruct concealed carry permitting process in Chicago

Would you like some cheese with that whine, Tom Dart?

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said Tuesday that the state is hindering his ability to check the criminal backgrounds of people applying for concealed carry permits.

This year, Illinois became the last state to allow concealed carry. The law takes effect Jan. 1 and the state expects to start issuing permits in April.

With tens of thousands of people potentially applying for permits in Cook County early next year, Dart says he fears the state won’t be able to keep up with background checks and local police agencies won’t be able to help.

Dart’s complaints are the sound of a spoiled son of the corrupt Cook County political machine having to cede a small degree of power back to the citizens of Illinois, not a legitimate law enforcement concern. For Illinois residents to apply for a concealed carry permit, they must already have an Illinois Firearms Owners Identification Card (FOID), which already requires a federal FBI NICS background check and a Department of Human Services mental health check.

Dart’s complaint is geared towards the hope that he can trip up as many law-abiding citizens as possible with any discrepancies between records at various levels… and nothing more.

Much like citizen-hating Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy, Dart can’t stand the thought of Cook County citizens exercising their unalienable right to self defense, and he’ll use all power within his means to deny that right to as many citizens as possible, for as long as possible.

I can’t say that I have that much sympathy for Cook County’s residents however: they voted Dart into office, and deserve what they get for their boot-licking.
