Teen killed after allegedly drawing gun on cop during domestic violence call

I do not like where the media seem to be so desperately directing this:

“The dude with the hoodie, the one who got shot, he had his hands out. The police officer told him to get on the ground. He didn’t, so the police officer shot him,” said an eyewitness.

The eyewitness said the victim was unarmed when he was shot, but Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock reported a different story.

“As the young man continued to advance, [Officer Hunt] told the man to back up, get away from him. The young man pulled his shirt up with his left hand there was a handgun in the waist band the young man began to draw that handgun out and officer hunt fired at least three rounds,” said Chief Medlock.

The teen, later identified as Shaqur McNair, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The media would love to have another Trayvon-like feeding frenzy, but I don’t think they’ll be able to find a good excuse here. The teen was part of what sounds like a mob attack on an officer trying to do his job, and is accused of pulling a gun. The NC State Bureau of Investigation reportedly recovered a gun stolen from South Carolina last year at the crime scene, which supports the officers claim.

Of course, it never made sense to me that they could turn a multiple-drug-abusing street fighter and apparent illegal gun dealer like Trayvon Martin into a martyr for failing to successfully beat a man to death, so what do I know?
