I’ve never had any real desire to shoot a .22 LR beyond 100 yards or so. I’m stunned at the distance at which it retained lethal force energy, and it appears that they simply ran out of range.

Interestingly enough, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) found out the same lessons, with the same rifle (Ruger 10/22s), when they attempted to use the .22LR as a “less lethal” round for a time.
They learned in fairly short order that the a .22 to the chest at several hundred meters could lead to fatalities, and discontinued the use of the rifle as a less lethal alternative.
