Not going down without a fight: 76-year-old SC woman dies in shootout with robbers.

A 76-year-old woman was killed in a shootout as a gang tried to rob her outside her South Carolina home in the early hours of Saturday.

Dorothy Hendrix was shot twice by the gang of two men and a woman, but she managed to shoot one of her assailants in the stomach before dying of her wounds.

Steven Hagood, Tereba Geer, and Bradacious Galloway have all been charged with murder.

I’m not going to try to “shape” the story the way the U.K. Daily News did to portray Dorothy Hendrix as a saint; illegal gaming machines were hauled away from her place of work by authorities after her death. That said, gaming parlors are common and often overlooked by local police as a harmless diversion until something like this happens.

Hendrix had been robbed and beaten once before at her home, in 2011. Authorities are not publicly saying whether or not they think the robbers caught and charged with Hendrix’s murder were associated with the 2011 crime.

After that brutal robbery—at 74 years old—Hendrix learned to shoot and got her concealed carry permit.

It’s a shame that Dorothy Hendrix died in this shootout with a trio of felons, but she certainly did do the world a favor in shooting one of her robbers and getting all three predators off the street before they could harm anyone else.
