"He Ain't Do Nuthin', Man"

Friends and family members assert that Raasan Shaw AKA Raasan Hill wasn’t doing anything wrong when Chicago Police officers needlessly gunned him down.

Law enforcement tells a rather different story:

The shooting occurred in the 6200 block of South Rhodes in the Woodlawn neighborhood. According to Camden, the 19-year-old was being chased by police because of a suspected drug deal. A witness said he was shot seven times. Chicago Police say they recovered a Glock semiautomatic pistol handgun with an extended high-capacity magazine.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as 19-year-old Raason Shaw.

After the shooting, a large crowd gathered at the scene taunting police, which prompted a call for back-up for crowd control.

Friends say 19 year-old Raason Shaw had just left them, to get something to eat.

“He was running through the alley, with no gun or nothing because he just left us, so we know he didn’t have no gun on him,” said a friend of the offender.

His sister says he was just going home.

“He was going to the family house, and they shot him,” said Sherrell Harris, Shaw’s sister, standing on 63rd Street not far from where the shooting happened. “They shot to kill.”

Well, that certainly is one side of the story.

But there are indications that Raasan wasn’t the innocent his friends and family are making him out to be. Police blogger Second City Cop found photos on social media where someone who appears to be Shaw/Hill appears armed with handguns featuring extended magazines.

The video below shows someone that looks like Shaw/Hill armed with a compact Glock pistol with an extended magazine, with what appears to be a frame-mounted laser on the right side. In all likelihood, it was this firearm that was described as being recovered beside Mr. Shaw’s body.

Oops.

Second City Cop also reports that the family has asked friend and other family members to please pull down all their social media pictures of Mr. Shaw holding weapons.

Ma’am, I believe your request comes a bit late.

We’ve had a number of stories that we’ve posted recently where law enforcement officers shot suspects under  questionable circumstances. It is very important to remember, however, that the majority of those “questionable” shootings are “questionable” due to claims made by friends and family members, who themselves may be of questionable veracity.

Law enforcement officers have a right to self defense as well, and more often than not, those they shot were threatening the lives of officers at the time they were shot.
