"Officer GFY" Resigns After Being Caught Pointing An AR-15 At Journalists

There are times when it is appropriate for law enforcement officers to point guns at people.

This was not one of those times.

The video of the encounter quickly went viral, and the officer was quickly put on indefinite leave.

He has now resigned.

Lt. Ray Albers, who was put on indefinite leave from the St. Ann Police Department after being caught on a cellphone video that went viral, quit the job he had held since 1994 on Thursday. Albers could not be reached for comment.

The video showed the officer pointing his gun at a demonstrator who apparently had his hands up. He cursed and appeared to say, “I will … kill you” before a sergeant made him lower his weapon and walk away. Albers was among the officers called in from neighboring towns to deal with unrest after a Ferguson police officer shot and killed an unarmed 18-year-old, Michael Brown on Aug. 9.

The riots and protests in Ferguson Missouri have thankfully since subsided.

A grand jury is currently hearing evidence to determine whether or not Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson will be charged or exonerated for shooting strong-arm robbery suspect Michael Brown.

Some witnesses claim that Brown was attempting to surrender when he was “executed” by police, and those claims, combined with a shoddy response by the police and existing racial tensions quickly led to protests and rioting.

Other witnesses reportedly allege that Brown assaulted Officer Wilson, and then was shot and killed after he attempted to bum-rush the officer.

The real question now is whether former Lt. Albers will face charges for assault with a deadly weapon.
