The mainstream media is collectively losing their minds for the second time in a week over comments Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson has made about firearms. Previously, Carson correctly noted that the best way to survive a mass murder attempt like the one at Umpqua Community College in Oregon is to attack and overwhelm the shooter with numbers.
While the media scoffed at the idea, police, military, and and counter-terrorism experts agreed with him wholeheartedly.
Yesterday, Carson noted that if Jews had firearms prior to World War Two, they might have had a chance to avert the Holocaust.
Republican candidate Ben Carson continued his controversial remarks about guns Thursday — suggesting in a new interview that the Jews may have been able to diminish the likelihood of the Holocaust if they were armed.
Carson made the remarks, which drew swift condemnation — on CNN. He said that passengers on Flight 93, which crashed on 9/11, helped avoid further tragedy by rushing the gunman.
In Carson’s new book “A Perfect Union,” Carson writes that “through a combination of removing guns and disseminating propaganda, the Nazis were able to carry out their evil intentions with relatively little resistance.”
On CNN, Carson was asked: “But just to clarify, if there had been no gun control laws in Europe at that time, would 6 million Jews have been slaughtered?”
In response, the candidate suggested that Hitler may not have been as effective in carrying out his plot if the victims were armed.
“I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed,” Carson said. “I’m telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take guns first.”
Carson is entirely correct, which is why the media must demonize him.
The mainstream media in the United States leans to the far left, and strongly believes that the government must have a monopoly on the use of force. This of course runs in direct opposition to the wishes of our Founding Fathers, who knew well that governments historically devolve into tyrannies that oppress and often slaughter their own citizens. The natural human right of citizens to be armed was so important to the Founders that it was second only to free speech and religious freedom in the Bill of Rights.
For a people to remain free, they must have a level of force suitable to dissuade tyranny and genocide.
Unfortunately, European Jews—like many of the their American counterparts—have historically leaned towards pacifism and socialism. In the 1930s, they were targeted by the Nazis as scapegoats, and the rest, unfortunately, is a history written in oceans of blood.
The only bright spots in the history of the Holocaust—if you can even call them that—were those moments when good people put their lives on the line to rescue or harbor the persecuted, and those moments when the persecuted stood and fought valiantly, if too late.
The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising saw a small number of Polish Jews armed with homemade grenades and handguns hold out for month against the Nazis. The Bielski partisans formed from survivors of the Nazi raids on the Nowogródek (Poland) ghetto, and they fought through the end of the war against the Nazis, saving more than 1,200 lives. The story of the Bielski partisans was the focus of a book, and later a 2008 movie, called Defiance.
Men seeking power often use government to seize that power at the expense of the lives of others. They have shown time and again through history that they will run roughshod over those weaker than themselves. This brutality is, unfortunately, apparently innate to the human condition.
Reasonable men can be reasoned with, but unfortunately, unreasonable men often come to lead nation-states. They do not care for reason or logic, and only understand force.
World history strongly suggests that when a murderous regime faces credible armed resistance, it will either attempt to fight it, negotiate with it, flee from it, or bypass it. In each and every one of those scenarios, they are buying time that saves lives.
Those attacking Dr. Carson for stating the obvious are stunningly ignorant of world history.
262 million people, almost all minority groups, were murdered by their own governments in the 20th century alone. In each and every instance, those murdered were disarmed by their governments for the “greater good.” In each instance, they though that it couldn’t happen to them as they were marched off to the ovens, the deserts, the gulags, the pits, and the killing fields.
They were wrong.
