Car Airbags Stopped Bullets During Wild Seattle Police Shootout

Seattle Police Department investigators are piecing together the trail of a 35-year-old violent felon after he brandished two handguns at several downtown businesses Sunday, carjacked three vehicles and fired on officers before a fatal confrontation with police in Northeast Seattle.

This felon with a gun died after a wreck and shootout with police Sunday, where as many as eleven officers firing into the vehicle as the criminal attempted to drive his way through a roadblock of officers.

A law enforcement officer familiar with the case stated that the airbags that deployed during the wreck were made of kevlar, and that when crime scene investigators processed the car, they shook stopped rounds out of the airbags.

We’re going to assume that these were pistol caliber-rounds that first hit and were slowed by automobile glass or car and people parts before being stopped by the airbag.

Fortunately, there were no casualties among innocent bystanders and the few police officers injured in wrecks during the chase suffered injures that were not life-threatening.
