Illinois Officer In Serious Condition After Shooting During Chase

Carbondale, IL police officer responding to sounds of shots being fired between 11:30 and 11:45 last night encountered a tan four-door sedan leaving the area at a high rate of speed. This began a chase, which resulted in shots fired and an officer being hit.

A Carbondale police officer was last reported in serious condition after being shot late Sunday evening.

The Carbondale Police Department says around 11:38 p.m., officers were on patrol in the 700 block of North Robert A. Stalls Street when they determined gunshots were being fired.

While driving toward the source of the gunshots, they saw a tan four-door car driving away from the scene.

The officers started to pursue the tan car.

During the chase, a suspect fired several gunshots from the tan car.

The shots hit the police car and one of the officers inside.

The officer was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to a St.Louis area hospital.

He was last listed in serious condition.

The tan car got away from the scene and the suspects have not been located.

None of the accounts we’ve read indicate that anyone was hit in the initial volley of shots fired before police arrived. There are not reports of injuries (other than the officer) or reports of property damage in local media outlets, which is causing me to wonder if the initial shots were initiated to draw police into the area.

Ambushes of law enforcement officers are up significantly in recent months due to the fabricated narratives surrounding the shooting deaths of armed robbery suspect Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, and serial felon Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Castile, a licensed concealed carrier, was pulled over for matching the description of an armed robbery suspect, and was reportedly shot while reaching for his concealed carry permit while unwisely uttering the phrase, “I’ve got a gun.” His girlfriend posted video of the aftermath of the shooting to Facebook, causing a media firestorm.

Sterling was shot and killed in a struggle over a handgun that the serial felon illegally possessed in a shooting that was filmed from two different camera angles. Despite dishonest claims that he was shot while in custody for “selling CDs” according to the Black Lives Matter domestic terrorist group, Sterling was actively fighting officers and was shot after being warned by officers and reaching towards the gun in his right front pocket.

Formal investigations into both of those officer-involved shootings are ongoing.
