When Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appeared on MSNBC this morning, he admitted he knew few details of the shooting at an ICE field office in Dallas, Texas this morning. But that didn't stop him from blaming the shooting on our current gun laws.
Chuck Schumer says he has no idea what happened with the ICE attack in Dallas, but he does know that guns are to blame:

"I don't know what's happened here, and I don't know about the guns, but we need better laws on guns."
“It’s become every day one of these things happen." pic.twitter.com/0h7myUP7WZ
"I mean, we got something done a few years ago," Schumer said, adding "it's just rampant and we have to do more," before boasting he was "the author of the Brady law [and] the assault weapons ban."
I agree with Schumer that politically motivated violence from the left does seem to be happening more frequently, but what gun laws does Schumer think would stop them?
The investigation into the attack continues, but FBI Director Kash Patel shared a photograph on X showing a clip with five rounds of rifle ammunition, one of which had "Anti ICE" written on it.
The suspect killing the very people he claims to want to "help" is the perfect encapsulation of far-leftism in a nutshell. https://t.co/VgEPTThqc1

According to Fox 4 in Dallas, the attacker, who died by suicide as law enforcement closed in on him, shot at an unmarked van as it was pulling into the field office. While the three individuals who were struck were detainees and not ICE officials, the killer may not have been able to see who, exactly, he was shooting at.

Two people inside were killed and one was injured. The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, sources say. https://t.co/EiGURHaucn
So again, based on what we know at the moment, what new gun laws does Chuck Schumer believe would have prevented this attack? We don't know what kind of rifle was used, but we do know that even bolt-action hunting rifles can be deployed in acts of politically motivated violence.
Does Schumer believe we need to ban all long guns, even though that would certainly run afoul of the Supreme Court's ruling in Heller as well as the plain text of the Second Amendment? Even if was constitutional (and its not), renewing Schumer's ban on so-called assault weapons won't stop these kinds of attacks. As we've tragically seen, individuals intent on committing mass murder, no matter their motivation, will use whatever firearm they can to carry out their plans.
"Everybody, right, left, center, I don't care what your politics are, has to speak out strongly against it [the attack]," Schumer said this morning. If he had stopped there I would have been in the rare position of actually agreeing with the anti-gun Democrat. Instead, Schumer used that moment to bloviate about his desire for more gun control, even though he was well aware that he knows nothing about the specifics of this shooting.
To the anti-gun crowd, the details don't matter. A gun was used, ergo gun control must be the answer. And why wait for the facts to emerge before demanding more (unnamed) gun control laws? The gun control lobby knows that their message resonates best when people in the immediate aftermath of a high-profile shooting, and if they can channel that shock, horror, outrage, and grief into a demand for lawmakers to "do something" the better their odds of successfully exploiting a tragedy.
Editor’s Note: Anti-gun politicians like Schumer will say and do whatever they can to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
