Why is it that every crazy gun control scheme begins with a reference to children? You can take it to the bank when a liberal says, “It’s for the children,” that they’re about to introduce something totally illogical and use kids as a distractor.
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is doubling down on smart gun technology proving people aren’t very smart.
“How many more kids have to die,” the New York Democrat asks in a press release. “How many more police officers have to be killed with their own weapon before we come to our senses?” The emotional distractor is to cover up Maloney’s resurrection of the old Smart Gun technology bill.
This time, Maloney would require Smart Gun technology to become the law of the land. It stipulates that within five years of the bill’s enactment, all new guns would be required to incorporate the flawed technology. If that’s not bad enough, Maloney has also included a mandate that within 10 years, if you want to transfer or sell your handgun, it must be retrofitted with the technology.
You got that right – your Smith and Wesson Model 19 revolver, your Colt National Match Gold Cup .45 semiauto, your Glock 17 – all of ‘em, ladies and gentlemen – every last one would be required to have a technology retrofit if you plan to sell or otherwise transfer the gun to someone else.
There’s good news, bad news and worse news. The good news is that the retrofit won’t cost you a dime. The bad news is the reason it won’t cost you a dime is the technology doesn’t exist, and the worse news is all your handguns will become your permanent collection like it or not.
Maloney’s Handgun Trigger Safety Act includes federal grant money that will allow entrepreneurs to develop the technology that, so far, has proven to be flawed. Maloney cites the grants will be earmarked to “increase efficacy and decrease costs.”
What could possibly go wrong with that?
She also envisions paying the manufacturers to retrofit handguns from the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund. A companion Senate bill is in the works by Senator Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat.
Maloney is quoted in a May 11th Gunsamerica.com article saying, “We wouldn’t drive in cars or use baby cribs that didn’t adopt the latest safety technology, and we shouldn’t use guns that don’t take advantage of this technology either,” she continued.
You see that kid thing creeping back in?
Not everyone is taken in by the smoke-and-mirrors of Smart Gun technology. Recently the Arizona legislature voted to block legislation that would require smart technology calling it “unproven and potentially dangerous.”
There’s nothing new about this idea. In 2002, New Jersey passed the Childproof Handgun Law making it the first state to allocate funds to the tune of a million dollars to develop Smart Gun technology.
The law includes a provision that after a “workable and reliable personalized handgun hits retail stores” – all future handgun sales in New Jersey must include the new technology. Fifteen years later, neither Smart Guns nor the million taxpayer dollars exist, once again underscoring the fact that Smart Guns prove people aren’t.
