Chuck Schumer’s niece Amy, who is famous for some reason, loves to ride her cousin’s tailcoats toward gun control in Everytown. In her latest ignorant and humorless little skit, she attempts to spread more zombie gun control lies – this time, by spoofing the new network GunsTV.
“This was a sketch that Amy personally felt really strongly about,” Dan Powell, executive producer for Inside Amy Schumer told Entertainment Weekly. “The whole writers room piped in with jokes and ideas and things like that but ultimately, this was Amy’s baby.”
EW shared an exclusive preview of the sketch, which spoofs GunTV with Schumer as a c0-host. In it, they sell weapons to sketchy callers “thanks to laws that allow special privileges for gun shows”. If you can’t possibly see how Schumer could be this ignorant, this could explain it – she worked with Everytown for Gun Safety on developing this skit.
“She really stood up and became a leader in the gun violence prevention space,” Brina Milikowsky, chief strategy officer for Everytown, tells EW of Schumer. “This is a really important fight to improve public safety and help save lives in America. We do need to use every tool that’s at our disposal. The ability to use comedy to reach new audiences is incredibly powerful.” Milikowsky is featured in the episode as well, as Schumer turns the tables and sits down to interview her about issues of gun violence.
GunTV’s parent company, The Social Responsibility Network, posted a video online saying the channel will address the nationwide need for “education, information and safety regarding firearms commerce.”
“We saw an opportunity in filling a need, not creating one,” Valerie Castle, a co-founder of the channel said. “The vast majority of people who own and use guns in this country, whether it’s home protection, recreation or hunting, are responsible.”
A video on the website boasts they aim to “responsibly offer extraordinary access to purchase the most diverse representation of firearms in the world”.
Schumer, however, couldn’t have bothered to look into the facts of her fears, listening instead to the zombie gun lies of Everytown and continues to spread them to the ignorant, uneducated masses.
Comedy? Tragic.
