Trump's Gun-Free Zone

It’s no surprise that gun rights is a huge issue for voters, so during Friday’s NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, Donald Trump took the opportunity to inform the NRA members packed into Freedom Hall that he was the better candidate than Hillary Clinton based on his support for gun rights:

“We’re getting rid of gun-free zones, I can tell you,” Trump said. “Crooked Hillary Clinton is the most anti-gun, anti–Second Amendment candidate ever to run for office. And as I said before, she wants to abolish the Second Amendment. She wants to take your guns away. She wants to abolish it.”

The Donald even taunted Hillary and the gun grabbers, saying if they want to get rid of guns, they should: starting with their armed security and secret service:

“Let’s see how they feel walking around without their guns and their bodyguards,” he said.

Trump followed up with a Tweet on Saturday with some advice for “heartless Hillary”.

But on Sunday, during a call-in interview with “Fox & Friends,” Trump clarified that he is not calling for “guns in classrooms.”

“But remember, in some cases – and a lot of people have made this case – teachers should be able to have guns,” Trump continued. “Trained teachers should be able to have guns in classrooms.”

“Although, in some cases, teachers should have guns in classrooms. Things that are going on in our schools are unbelievable. You look at some of our schools — unbelievable what’s going on. But I’m not advocating guns in classrooms,” he added.

But in January, Trump said gun-free zones were simply “bait” for shooters.

“I will get rid of gun-free zones in schools and — you have to — on military bases,” Trump said at a campaign event in Burlington, Vermont. “My first day, it gets signed, OK? My first day. There’s no more gun-free zones.”

Trump has yet to clarify what the specifics will be in his plan to abolish gun-free zones in schools – if he will truly rid the country of them or create new restrictions within them.
