The attempted break in, which was caught on the homeowner’s surveillance camera, shows the suspect actively attempting to pry open the front door of a home in the 4200 block of Polk Street shortly before 8:30 a.m. Failing to breach the entrance, the suspect then moved to the side of the home where he attempted to jimmy open a window.

The homeowner was in the house at the time of the attempted break-in and, fearing for their safety, armed themselves with a firearm. The homeowner fired a round at the suspect, causing him to flee the scene on foot.

Authorities do not know if the suspect was hit by the homeowner’s shot, but are still searching for the man at this time. Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the man shown on the surveillance video is asked to call Hollywood Police at 954-967-4411.
