Subway Maintenance Man Shoots Would-Be Armed Robber

An employee performing maintenance at the popular restaurant chain Subway in Acworth, GA invited an armed robber to eat fresh lead during an attempted robbery Monday morning.

Police in Acworth received a call reporting the attempted robbery and self defense shooting at 10:25 a.m. from the Subway located at 3305 Acworth Oaks Drive, near Baker Road.

Deandre Antonio Yates, 20, of Cincinnati, walked in alone to the Subway, Acworth Police spokesman Capt. Mark Cheatham said.

A worker performing maintenance service for the business shot Yates in the chest, Cheatham said. Yates ran out of the restaurant and, minutes later, Kennesaw police got a call about a man having been shot, Cheatham said.

Yates was at Kennesaw Medical Center, but he did not drive himself there, Cheatham said.

He was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Police said later that he made it through surgery and will likely survive.

Police say Yates has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He will be taken into custody upon discharge from the hospital.
