Whatcha hidin’, Biden? White House served FOIA on gun control group interactions

The hard hitting litigation and journalism team of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has been going to the mattresses in defense of American’s civil liberties for decades. With colleague Lee “The Gun Writer” Williams at the helm of the SAF Investigative Journalism Project (IJP), many things are being discovered as he flips over rocks looking for some slimy anti-freedom creatures to expose. In his latest efforts, as reported by the SAF, Williams has served up a platter of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the White House concerning their dealings with groups that are anti-civil liberty.

The Second Amendment Foundation’s Investigative Journalism Project (SAF/IJP) has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the White House, seeking copies of documents, both digital and print, “that show interactions between White House staff and members of gun control and gun safety groups.”

The FOIA request was made by IJP editor Lee Williams, whose coverage of gun-related news appears in TheGunMag.com, a SAF-owned publication, as well as several other online news sites.

“The Biden-Harris administration runs the least transparent White House in recent history,” Williams said. “Everything is conducted in secret, behind closed doors. Through this Freedom of Information Act request, we will start holding the shot-callers accountable for their constant infringements on our Second Amendment rights. At the very least, we will find out who’s actually orchestrating their war on our guns.”

We’d all be fooling ourselves if we thought that the anti-freedom caucus members that wish to disarm the public did not have their meat hooks slammed tightly into the Biden-Harris administration. It’s just a matter of how tight their hold is and what the White House is willing to admit.

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said the move was necessary in order to learn just how closely and under-the-radar the Biden White House is working with the gun prohibition lobby on legislation and other efforts that may impair Second Amendment rights.

“Joe Biden is a perennial anti-gun-rights politician and he has spent his entire career pushing various gun control schemes that would turn the right to keep and bear arms into a heavily-regulated privilege,” Gottlieb observed. “Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, we might be able to learn just how deeply entrenched the gun ban movement has become in his administration.”

Mr. Gottlieb’s assertion is perhaps understated, as referring to Biden’s push to turn the Second Amendment into a “heavily-regulated privilege” might be hushed in comparison to Biden’s true motives. In my opinion, those desires more closely resemble the complete abolishment of the right to arms altogether.

Who might be hiding under a rotten log or moss covered rock?

The FOIA request seeks copies of all documents, including emails and visitor logs, between the White House and gun control and gun safety groups including, but not limited to, Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, The Trace, Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Third Way, Newtown Action Alliance, Gun Control Giving Fund, Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Violence Policy Center, Gun Violence Archive, Sandy Hook Promise, March for Our Lives, Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions, Alliance for Gun Responsibility and Guns Down America.

That’s quite the laundry list of who’s who of who I’d not want to invite to a party. There might be a party though, we just don’t know who’s invited. It’d be no shocker should some of those usual suspects try to slither away when spotted if exposed. It’s quite possible these groups have been asked to break bread with the sock puppet that sits at the Resolute Desk, or at a minimum capitulate with his handlers.

The issue with FOIA requests is the government handles them pretty much the way they handle everything else, however they want to. They can be in compliance with the law by returning documents adorned with the markings of a “government highlighter”, those black permanent markers redacting out what most people would want to know. The White House can also completely ignore the request, something Mr. Gottlieb alluded to this himself.

“If the Biden White House declines to produce the requested materials, we’re going to wonder why,” Gottlieb said, “and we will not be satisfied until we get some answers, even if it means a court fight.”

How is this going to flesh out? It’s hard to tell. If I had to place some bets, I’d be willing to say that the Administration is going to have to meet with whatever attorney the Second Amendment Foundation secures in court. Thankfully Americans have the watchful eye of the Second Amendment Foundation, and patriots like Alan Gottlieb and Lee Williams, to work towards keeping rogue governmental bodies and officials in check. What swamp creature is Williams going to uncover with this FOIA? I don’t know. But I have my popcorn bucket ready for the show!
