‘Gun Violence Research’ Bill Introduced in Congress

On July 29, 2025, the “Gun Violence Prevention Research Act of 2025” was introduced by Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, D-Wash. The bill aims to free funds for so-called “gun violence” research.

H.R.4821 is a measure that would open up funding to the Centers for Disease Control. The bill would secure those funds “for conducting or supporting research on firearms safety or gun violence prevention.” H.R.4821 currently has 12 Democratic co-sponsors. The Senate version, S.2514, has 30 Democratic co-sponsors and two Independents. S.2514 was introduced by Senator Ed Markey, D-Mass.

The bill comes with the support of Brady United, Everytown for gun Safety, March For Our Lives, and GIFFORDS.

The text of the bill is as follows:

There is authorized to be appropriated to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention $50,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2031 for the purpose of conducting or supporting research on firearms safety or gun violence prevention under the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 201 et seq.). The amount authorized to be appropriated by the preceding sentence is in addition to any other amounts authorized to be appropriated for such purpose.

According to Strickland, the primary sponsor, “gun violence is preventable.” In her press release, she further stated that, “Republicans actively choose to watch children, mothers, fathers, and Americans gunned down in deference to the gun lobby.”

When introduced, the bill was sent to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. There has been no further action since.

Senator Markey said in a statement that the funds would “allow our nation’s top medical, scientific, and public health researchers to conduct studies that would save lives.” He further alleges that “it is critical that we chart a path out of this public health crisis” and these funds would allegedly achieve that goal.

It seems that the anti-gun crowd has desperately tried for years to re-allow funding from the Centers for Disease Control to be used as a machine to disarm Americans. The rhetoric is loud and clear as is apparent with Senator Elissa Slotkin calling “gun violence … a uniquely American crisis” and further saying that they “must treat this epidemic like the national security threat that it is.”

Slotkin perhaps exposed too much of her hand when she stated in order to get control of the so-called “epidemic,” “that means using every tool in the toolbox.” Is that confirmation that the anti-liberty crowd will execute every end and means available? Seems it.

This bill is not likely to go anywhere anytime soon. It’s not the first time that this bill has been introduced in Congress and it’s not likely to be the last. Earlier versions were introduced in the last two sessions of Congress. However, the sponsors of the bill say that its introduction comes at a “critical time” because “the Trump Administration has effectively dismantled gun violence prevention efforts.” — right.

Even if the Democratic — and two Independent — lawmakers somehow would be able to pass this bill in both chambers, given President Trump’s pledged commitment to the Second Amendment, there’s no way he’d enact it. This appears to be more pandering and posturing from a handful of lawmakers who want to say, “Look, I’m doing something.” In reality, they’re #not.

Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
