Katie Pavlich At Prager University: Gun Rights Are Women's Rights

Personal defense is one of the most popular reasons many people own a firearm. Even many competition shooters got started out of a desire to protect themselves and their families.

One of the groups that seem most opposed to this idea, however, are feminists. Yet, should they?

Katie Pavlich, speaking for Prager U, argues that gun rights are actually women’s rights.

Katie makes some excellent points. Particularly about how women are generally unable to fend off an attacker with brute force. It’s alarming that the simple fact that, on average, men are stronger than women is considered controversial. Even looking at elite weightlifters of similar bodyweight should clearly show that men are stronger than one another.

In their mania to rid the world of guns, anti-gun crusaders are merely creating an environment where the strong will almost literally thrive while the weaker–both women and men–will be more vulnerable to attackers.

The fact is, every woman in America should be toting a firearm with them everywhere they go, ready to defend themselves from any potential attacker.

Imagine, for a moment, what it would be like if Harvey Weinstein’s (alleged) antics had resulted in him getting a good look at the business end of a Glock 19? Think he might have started rethinking his life decisions?

Social media is filled with women saying #MeToo, but it’s hard not to believe that at least some of these might have been a different story if the women in question were armed.

No, I’m not saying that being unarmed makes it their fault these situations happened. I’m not saying that at all. I can’t imagine anything a woman could do that would justify being sexually assaulted, and I have a vivid imagination.

What I am saying is that if you want to minimize your risk, being armed is a heck of a way to go about it.

Which makes you wonder how this happened:

Stay classy, YouTube. Stay classy.

Back to the content of the video, Pavlich brought up the pepper spray and rape whistles but glosses over the shortfalls of both of these, probably due to time constraints on the video. Pepper spray can be effective, but a number of people are practically immune to the effects. Rape whistles only work if there’s someone who can hear it who also gives a damn.

Both of these rely on an ideal situation. A firearm doesn’t.

It’s only the firearm that empowers women to take on bigger, meaner attackers and even the ground. Like they used to say, “God created all men, but Sam Colt made them equal.” That goes for women as well.

Frankly, everything Pavlich states in the video is accurate, but there are a few things she didn’t get into. You see, gun rights aren’t just women’s rights, but human rights. Each and every human has a God-given right to defend their life, limb, and property with the most efficient and effective tools to do so, and those are the arms of the day.

It boggles my mind that so many who claim to support women’s rights would see women (and men) barred from the most effective means to defend themselves from bigger, meaner, and stronger attackers.

Apparently, Pavlich feels the same way.
