Attacker Killed In Self-Defense Held Up As Evidence Of Gun Violence

For most folks, having to shoot someone in self-defense is horrific. It’s a traumatizing affair all on its own, completely separate from the attack that necessitated an armed response.

But it’s something that has to be done, or else you’re going to die at the hands of a maniac.

Imagine, though, sometime later you find out that the man who attacked you, who tried to strangle you, was being held up as a victim of “gun violence.” How would you respond?

Well, that’s the reality facing one woman right now.

You may recall, a few months ago, we had a young motorcyclist on the show named Aubrey Bowlin.

Earlier this year, Aubrey was in a deadly road rage incident on I-5 in Pierce County with a 60-year-old man named Bruce Jones, who was driving a large car. This man forced her off the side of the road. Then he got out of his car amidst the heavy traffic of I-5 and began physically attacking this young woman.

Aubrey Bowlin is a somewhat petite woman, 23 at the time, and she was afraid that this much-larger man was going to kill her. He hit her and shook her, she described, like a dog shaking a toy in its mouth. He violently tried to rip her helmet off, squeezing her neck with the chin strap, which caused her to lose consciousness. Aubrey believed he was going to choke her to death.

The reason I bring this up now is because a listener this week brought to my attention that an anti-gun website, which puts up photos of people whose lives have been “lost to gun violence,” has put up a photo of this guy that Aubrey shot, Bruce Jones.

Aubrey reportedly suffers from PTSD regarding this incident, and I’m quite sure this isn’t likely to help. It also appears that she’s been fully exonerated by the police, contrary to what the link in the quoted section claims, as she should be.

The thing is, Bruce Jones killed himself. Aubrey Bowlin just carried the bullets for a little while.

What that means is that the moment he made the decision–road rage induced or not–to attack a young woman on the side of the road for whatever reason, he forfeited his life. He essentially committed “suicide by armed citizen.”

But he was not some average victim of “gun violence.” He wasn’t some innocent schmoe walking down the street, minding his own business. He was a grown man who attacked a petite woman for some ungodly reason, and he got precisely what he deserved.

I have zero sympathies for the man.

I have even less for the scumbag who pretends he’s somehow the victim of gun violence. No. I refuse to allow things like this to stand on their own. It’s nothing more than a bizarre attempt to paint armed citizens as the equivalent to gang bangers popping drive-bys in the hood. It’s an attempt to pretend that any use of a firearm is the same, regardless of the facts.

It’s another attempt to stigmatize gun owners.

After all, if you’re terrified of shooting someone because you’ll be painted as a murderer, regardless of what the police find, then you’re less likely to have the means to kill your attackers.

It’s absolutely disgusting, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
