How Not To Handle A Gun, Lesson #5,021,252

There are some very responsible gun owners. We all know that. Most of us like to think of ourselves as being in that category. Some of those actually are, while some are just deluding themselves.

However, there are some people who handle a firearm so recklessly that you just have to be amazed that someone who could think some of this is a good idea can muster the brain power to take a breath.

For example, we have an Arizona women who took a couple of shots at her husband to make him listen to her.

Goodyear police report that on December 30 they received a call from a man who said his wife was shooting at him. Officers met the man near his home in the area of Pebble Creek Parkway and Indian School Road.

The man reportedly told police that his wife of 32 years was upset and had been yelling at him for two days.

He said he was on the toilet when 69-year-old Linda Jean Fahn barged in and fired two shots above his head.

Police contacted and detained Fahn in the home. She allegedly said to police, “I shot two bullets at the wall above his head to make him listen to me.”

Fahn argued that “he would have to be 10 feet tall to be hit by the bullets.” However, police estimate it was more like seven inches above his head.

Whatever her husband was trying to do on that toilet, I bet it happened pretty quickly.

I had to check to make sure the gentleman under fire, as it were, wasn’t this guy. If so, I understand trying to rob a bank to get away from his wife. It would make perfect sense then.

But no.

Instead, we have a prime example of how not to handle a firearm. It is not a conversation initiator. That’s not its purpose. It’s a deadly weapon, and if you pull that trigger, you’re endangering lives.

I suspect that Fahn really does think she aimed stupidly so as to not hurt her husband. However, it also sounds like she may have jerked the trigger or something, causing the rounds to hit far lower than she intended.

Or, she’s just not that sure of where she aimed. Whatever.

It really doesn’t matter what really happened because she apparently admits to popping off the shots at him. This is something we like to call “aggravated assault.” This is a crime, and yes, Fahn has been charged, as she should be.

Whatever we do, though, let’s not send this story to my wife. She doesn’t need any ideas and, well, I do tend to lose focus after a long day when she starts talking about some stuff I have absolutely no interest in. This is the last thing I need, and I suspect I’m not alone.

Luckily, everyone is safe, which is why I joke a fair bit writing about this, but what isn’t a joke is just how dangerous something like this. I can’t emphasize enough just how stupid it is to fire a gun in someone’s direction. Even if you think you’re not going to hit them, stuff happens all the time. This story could easily have turned tragic with just the simple act of her husband standing up at the wrong moment.

Please, help us combat Chronic Stupidity.
