Gun control is allegedly all about keeping guns out of the hands of bad people. If they also disarm good people, well…that’s just a price the anti-gunners are willing to pay. After all, they argue, if it saves just one life and all that jazz.

The problem is, criminals are already forbidden from having guns. It’s illegal to knowingly sell a convicted felon a firearm.

If gun control works, though, then just how in the hell did a convicted felon amass an arsenal 25 firearms he couldn’t legally buy?

Federal agents seized 25 guns from an Ocala home of a convicted felon, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.

Nicholas Allen Groves, 35, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Prosecutors said on Nov. 6 federal agents found 25 guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition at Groves’ Ocala home.

Some guns recovered by agents were AR-15 and AK-47 rifles, according to investigators.

Agents said they also found three military-style 40mm smoke and parachute rounds.

Now, it’s theoretically possible that Groves was able to purchase all of these in private transfers. It’s possible.

It’s not likely, but it’s possible.

It’s far more likely, however, that the criminal acquired these firearms via illegal means. For example, he may have used a straw buyer, someone who could pass the criminal background check and to serve as a sort of proxy for someone who can’t. These are highly illegal and, contrary to what some anti-gunner want to think, difficult catch. An alternative is that Groves could have used a fake ID in order to pass the mandated background check.

He could have also purchased guns from a black market dealer. That’s where most criminals get their guns, after all.

Regardless, Groves is just one of the multitudes of convicted felons who walk around us day in, day out armed. They have guns in spite of the law because, well, that’s what criminals do. They break the law.

Meanwhile, how many law-abiding citizens have to jump through unnecessary hoops in order to purchase firearms due to laws that have clearly done nothing to keep someone like Groves disarmed?

Of course, Groves hasn’t been convicted, so it’s possible that he’s innocent here. I don’t believe it, but I’m obligated to at least acknowledge the possibility. He’ll get his day in court where he can try to prove his innocence.

Or, more likely, he’ll plead down for a lesser sentence because he knows he’s screwed.

Meanwhile, the rest of us will have to defend ourselves not just from his fellow criminals but the lawmakers and activists who seek to disarm us because people like him keep on getting guns. We’ve done nothing to actually stop him or other criminals because they’ll follow any path they can find to get a gun. It’s a lot like how a cockroach will get into your house anyway it can to gobble a few crumbs from your floor if you’re not careful.

So tell me again why I should give up my gun rights?

Yeah, that’s what I thought.
