Uvalde police reported harassing hero mom

While Uvalde has sparked many to demand more gun control, and some Republicans to actually provide it, it reminded me that you can’t count on the police to save you. After all, if they were so hesitant to save a bunch of fourth-graders, what chance do I have that they’d come and bail me out of trouble?

The police waited outside for a long time before entering the building, a decision that cost numerous children their lives.

Further, they tried to stop parents from going and getting their children.

One mother who managed to do so, though, is claiming Uvalde police are now harassing her.

Angeli Rose Gomez, the young mother who iconically rushed into Robb Elementary School to save her children during the Uvalde mass shooting, now says she is being harassed by the local police department.

Just when you think it can’t get worse with these people…

Gomez was first handcuffed by the same police when she showed up at the school and sought to enter the premises and do what they refused to—defend the kids inside. She managed to convince the cops to release her after a short period of time and then quickly broke away to save her sons.

Images and news of Gomez’s heroic actions quickly flooded social media. And, given that there were certainly no heroes among the Uvalde police that day, she was lauded for her efforts by the public at-large.

It seems that did not sit well with police though, who Gomez told Fox 25 are now harassing her. “The other night we were exercising, and we had a cop parked at the corner like, flickering us with his headlights,” she said. In fact, their campaign against her has apparently gotten so bad that Gomez has separated from her sons for the time-being so they don’t feel in danger. “Just so my sons don’t feel like they have to watch cops passing by, stopping, parking,” she told Fox.

Go and read the whole thing, because if what Gomez is claiming is true, then the Uvalde Police Department has a lot more problems than we originally believed.

The thing is, there’s no amount of harassment they could deliver that would make Gomez regret her decision. After all, her kids are alive while so many others aren’t.

What truly irks me, though, is that there’s likely nothing to be done regarding what Gomez is dealing with. Thanks to things like qualified immunity, it’s going to be extremely difficult to take the Uvalde Police Department to court.

Now, I have a lot of respect for law enforcement officers as a whole. As I’ve noted elsewhere on this site, I was raised by one. I know how hard a job it is about as well as anyone who hasn’t worn a badge can.

But this is something I can’t stand.

Granted, this is Gomez saying this and it could be a misunderstanding or something else. I don’t think that’s likely, but I’ll acknowledge that we’re only seeing one side of the story here. However, if this is going on, it’s a reminder that not all who wear the badge are good people.

It’s yet another reason to carry a gun, too, because I’d rather get a bit of harassment than my family get a bill for funeral expenses.
