Murphy gets slapped down over Uvalde comments

It’s long been said that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. This is as true now as when it was first said.

However, for someone like Sen. Chris Murphy, that’s not something he’s willing to accept. He doesn’t trust any of us to carry firearms, so he can’t imagine any of us actually stopping a mass shooting or any other violent crime.

Unfortunately, following Uvalde, Murphy tried to use that to prove his point on that. It did not go well.

Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy of Connecticut tried to politicize the Uvalde massacre to argue against gun owner rights, but he faced a wave of backlash on social media.

Murphy argued against the commonly used phrase “good guy with a gun” in self-defense cases by citing the much maligned police response in Uvalde.

“The Uvalde video puts to bed, forever, the question of whether the way to deal with bad guys with guns is to make sure there are more good guys with guns,” tweeted Murphy.

Now, let’s remember that these were police officers who refused to enter the school for 77 minutes while children were screaming in terror.

What does this say about good guys with guns? Well, nothing. Nothing at all, as others were happy to point out to Murphy.

“Ah yes, one incident of cops doing nothing is conclusive proof that private citizens need never be armed. Nobody will be persuaded by this unless they are already so ideologically committed they didn’t read the whole tweet,” replied Dan McLaughlin of National Review.

“Actually Chris what the Uvalde video shows is you can’t trust law enforcement to protect you from bad guys all the time. Sometimes you have to protect yourself,” read another popular tweet.

“Your gun control made sure the only person armed was the murderer and that the coward cops waited while everyone was murdered. Meanwhile you hide behind personal security armed with machineguns,” said another critic.

Let’s be clear here. If Uvalde did anything, it proved just what happens when there isn’t a good guy with a gun handy.

The killer was able to take his time, slaughtering children at will, because the supposed good guys with guns were checking their cell phones and getting a hit of hand sanitizer instead of kicking in doors and winning hearts and minds with two to the heart and one to the mind.

Murphy is insane if he honestly believes this does anything except serve as a stark reminder that the police have no duty to protect you.

After all, if they won’t protect a school full of children, why would you think you’d be the recipient of special attention from them? You won’t be.

That means it’s illustrative of just how important it is for every law-abiding American to not just be able to carry a firearm, but to carry them in as many places as possible. After all, it’s clear we can’t just assume the police will come and rescue us.

I guess Murphy lacks the intellectual capacity to see past his own biases and recognize that.
