Opposition didn't seem to hurt Friends of NRA fundraiser

The Friends of NRA is a group that works to support various programs of the National Rifle Association. These include things like education programs and such, but because the NRA is involved, there’s often a lot of…tension between local groups and people who aren’t fans of the Second Amendment.

Sometimes, these groups can lose venues because of that opposition, which is what happened to the Medina area group.

It didn’t seem to hurt them all that much.

An NRA-affiliated fundraising event that gun-control activists in Texas tried to cancel in light of its proximity to the site of the tragic Uvalde school shooting proceeded this weekend with banner results.

“Last night’s Medina Area Friends of NRA Fundraising Event was a huge success!” the Medina Area Friends of NRA posted to Facebook on Sunday.

The Medina Area Friends of NRA, which is a grassroots fundraising program under The NRA Foundation, was held on Saturday and attended by hundreds of people, Fox News Digital has learned. The yearly fundraising event even collected a 76% increase in donations this year compared to last, an NRA official said.

The event had been met with fierce condemnation from gun control activists and relatives of the victims of the devastating Uvalde school shooting on May 24, which left 19 students and two teachers dead. The event was scheduled to be held in Hondo, Texas, which is about 40 miles east of Uvalde.

Now, in Texas, 40 miles doesn’t seem like all that far away, and it’s really not.

However, it’s not like they’d decided to rent the school for the fundraiser.

Regardless, the activists did the Friends of NRA chapter a favor. A 76 percent increase over the previous year isn’t something that just happens. Instead, it’s likely a case of the Streisand Effect. Activists lose their minds because not everyone is blaming guns for what happened and acting accordingly, thus drawing attention to the thing they’re trying to destroy.

The results? A massive success for what they were trying to kill.

Brilliant job, guys. Absolutely amazing.

I’d love to say this is the secret to defeating the screeching Karens who want to push anything related to firearms underground, but the truth is that they don’t actually care. This isn’t a setback for them. In fact, most of them will never even know they did the Medina Area Friends of NRA a huge favor. They’re oblivious to that fact.

But the upside is that they’ll do this again, improving fundraising efforts for an organization they all profess to despise.

I can’t lie, that sounds like an incredible win for our side in the grand scheme of things.

In the meantime, I can hope that they’ll come to recognize that planned events in a completely different city aren’t somehow disrespecting the lives lost in a horrific tragedy. Even in the same city, life must inevitably go on and not everyone wants to blame guns, the NRA, or whatever other boogieman anti-gunners want to concoct rather than facing the reality that there’s something wrong in our society that’s leading to exactly this.
