Thieves Hit Tampa Gun Range, Steal 5 Firearms

Numerous gun control laws have been put in place to try and keep guns out of the hands of bad guys. Some have argued that still more are needed.

Take universal background checks, for example.

Many of those in favor of gun control argue that those are absolutely necessary to keep bad guys from getting weapons.

However, that’s not really the case. Criminals aren’t deterred by background checks for private sales of firearms because that’s not how they typically get firearms.

Oh no, they tend to get them like this:

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is searching for two suspects accused of stealing five long guns from a firearms academy in Tampa last week.

According to the sheriff’s office, on Thursday, Oct. 12, just before 5:30 a.m., two suspects smashed a window of the Florida Firearms Academy. The men removed a total of five long guns (shotguns and rifles) from the business.

Burglar bars on the windows did their job and kept the thieves from fully entering the building.

However, since they still got their hands on five firearms, the problem is still a problem.

And to make matters worse, they didn’t even fill out a 4473 and get a background check. It’s almost like thieves have no respect for the law.

Which, of course, is true.

See, for all the talk of trying to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, the truth is that they’ll always find a way to access them. They’re not going to be deterred from doing so.

All those laws put in place to prevent those bad people from getting firearms don’t stop them, but it does prevent responsible citizens from getting firearms in many cases. It also can restrict them from having some of the best means to defend themselves simply because some politician or activist has decided they didn’t need that many rounds or that particular weapon.

But the bad guys? They’ll steal whatever it is they can steal, including firearms.

Laws won’t stop it, either, because if they did, the laws against stealing firearms would do the trick. The truth is that nothing will really stop that from happening, especially now that there are so many guns in private hands.

Thieves will steal weapons and either keep them for themselves or sell them to other criminals.

It’s actually how most weapons end up in criminal hands.

Not that you’d know that from the way the activists scream about restricting our Second Amendment rights.

But at the end of the day, this is what we’re up against and why gun control simply isn’t going to work. For as long as the bad guys want these weapons, they’ll find a way to get these weapons.

Let’s acknowledge that these aren’t master thieves we’re seeing in this case. These are bargain basement crooks. Ocean’s 11, they aren’t.

And neither are most firearm thieves, when you get right down to it. Most are smash-and-grab “experts” who just bust in, take what they can grab, then haul butt.

Infringing on people’s Second Amendment rights won’t stop that.
