We can argue until we're blue in the face as to whether or not Kyle Rittenhouse did anything wrong by being in Kenosha with an AR-15 that one night. Right or wrong doesn't matter. It was legal and he was there. Everything that happened beyond that has been tried in court and Rittenhouse was determined to have done nothing wrong.
But because he shot three protestors with the "correct" politics, he's an awful human being.
Unfortunately for those people, though, he's not in prison and actually has a bit of a platform. He's currently using it to support candidates he likes, as most of us do. We just don't have Rittenhouse's reach.
And, it seems, that's a problem for some folks.
Kyle Rittenhouse has been slammed online for supporting a political candidate who is a proponent of "protecting Texans from unconstitutional federal gun laws."
...
Following his trial, Rittenhouse was acquitted in November 2021 on charges of first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, and two charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
Now he's encouraging people to vote for Republican Party member Andy Hopper, who is running for election to the Texas House of Representatives to represent District 64—and people aren't happy.
Now, I don't know anything about Hopper. There are so many state races out there that I can't keep up with all of the candidates, nor do I particularly care to try.
But if Rittenhouse wants to offer his opinions, well, he's a free man. He can do what he wants.
It's just unfortunately that some people simply can't let it go.
People have taken to the comments of Rittenhouse's post to criticize him.
"Oh look, the murderer has an opinion about guns," one person wrote.
"Yeah everybody listen to murdering Kyle about politics," said another.
"Ha! Person with proven track record of terrible decision-making endorses state politicians...yikes," a third person commented.
A fourth person added: "Shocker murderer is worried about gun control laws."
So, the only one who might sorta kinda have a point is the third person above. If you believe he made a terrible decision that night, then you're certainly going to think he's probably inclined to make more.
Kind of like how Taylor Swift has made a career singing about her poor choice in men, only to endorse Joe Biden.
The other three, however, are fixated on him supposedly being a murderer, even though there's really not a lot of evidence to suggest he did anything but defend himself. The only person he shot and didn't kill admitted he pointed a gun at Rittenhouse in open court, so that alone tells us plenty. We also have video of Rittenhouse being struck by a skateboard by one of the dipsticks he shot and killed.
He's not a murderer.
And yet, unsurprisingly, Rittenhouse (among others) didn't get the level of protection that the Kansas City perpetrators did. Particularly the juveniles involved.
“I am trying to comprehend why the government was quick to reveal my name after I defended myself, but they still haven’t released the names of the Kansas City shooters,” Rittenhouse posted Feb. 20 on X.
Authorities charged four people, two adults and two minors, in connection with the Feb. 14 shooting in Kansas City, Missouri.
Several other social media users besides Rittenhouse saw a double standard between the details released in this shooting — the adult suspects are Black, while the juveniles’ races are unknown — and other high-profile, but noncriminal, incidents involving white minors. They mentioned Nick Sandmann, a high schooler whose encounter with a Native American man went viral in 2019, and Holden Armenta, a 9-year-old who was criticized by the news outlet Deadspin for wearing black and red face paint and a Native American headdress to a 2023 Chiefs game.
And now, of course, they're still calling him a murderer despite having been acquitted in a court of law.
This is arguably defamation. They know the verdict. They know he was found not guilty. They still persist in saying untrue things.
They can claim it's their opinion, but they're not stating it as such.
Of course, Rittenhouse would be wasting his time to go after these people for literally anything since the slugs don't likely have anything beyond an impressive and disturbing hentai collection and some very poor hygiene.
The truth of the matter is that Rittenhouse is still living in their heads rent-free. They can't get over the fact that he, as a young man, used a firearm to defend himself from an angry mob that probably would have torn him to shreds had he not had the means to protect himself.
And the mob is still after him. The only difference is that now they understand not to physically threaten him and just seek to destroy him in any other way they can find.
What they don't get is that the people who will seek a Rittenhouse endorsement aren't really worried what this mob thinks. They aren't getting the mob's votes in the first place, so why bother?
