North Carolina Thieves Use Fork Lift to Steal Guns

One thing that we need to remember about people breaking in is that you'll never be able to stop someone determined to enter a building. All you can do is make your home as unattractive a target as humanly possible. The goal is to make them find an easier target.

Not the most warm and comforting thought.

Yet it is what it is. For most people, that's good enough. You can't really help it if your neighbors don't take similar precautions.

With stores, it's not all that different. The only difference is that the bad guys don't have to wonder what's inside, so if you've got a product they really want, you have to do more.

When the bad guys somehow have a forklift, however...

Youngsville police are looking for three people caught on video breaking into a gun range by using a forklift to pull the front entrance door away from the building.

...

“You can prepare for a lot of things,” Youngsville Gun Club owner Jason Gladwell said. “You can not prepare for someone stealing a forklift and running through a steel cage and breaking into your business.”

Gladwell said his security system has the abliity to record very precise details.

“We do know exactly what they did," Gladwell said. "We've got an amazing security system.

"So, we know exactly what they did, how long they were in [the store]. [The system was] tracking everything, so we've got a very good record of what's in the store [and] what's not in the store."

Security footage showed the people entering the store and leaving with the guns.

Because of that "amazing security system," police know the breaking happened at 1:17 on Wednesday morning.

And Gladwell is right. You really can't prepare for someone crashing a forklift through the front of your store.

Luckily, it sounds like they know exactly what was taken, which means anyone who gets caught with one of those won't really be able to claim they don't have a stolen gun.

That's the good news.

It's also good news that Gladwell's security system has lots of pictures of the bad guys. Someone knows them and not everyone is going to be interested in protecting them. Someone's likely to give at least one of these guys up. Once that happens, the whole thing collapses.

We don't know how many guns were taken, but it sounds like they took plenty. We also know there were both pistols and long guns taken. What we need to hope is that these guys are caught before they can put any of these guns into circulation.

We should hope that if for no other reason than to have these stolen guns used in horrific crimes that are then used to justify gun control on the law-abiding who had no part in any of this.

But anti-gunners don't care and criminals don't care. They'll steal guns, sell them to fellow dirtbags, then shrug when something terrible happens. They're not the ones who will feel the real ramifications. That's on us.

So yeah, I hope they're arrested, prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced to a long time in prison where their cell mates are more than happy to welcome them into the prison system.
