Anti-Gun Media Not In a Happy Place Right Now

Four years ago, we weren't thrilled with the outcome of the election. I know it, you know it, we all saw it. Sure, there's the odd person who changed their views since then who might be reading this and was happy then and is happy now. Welcome!

But the anti-gun media is really distraught. You see, they got a lot of the things they wanted with the Biden administration, but all of that as is fragile as Jimmy Kimmel's psyche.

In other words, they know it's all going away. They might try to pretend it's not, but they know otherwise and even have to admit it, though we know they don't want to.

The movement to expand gun rights gained further momentum Tuesday as voters returned Donald Trump to the White House — this time accompanied by a vice president who has called for disbanding the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

For the last several years, efforts to reform gun laws have stalled, largely limited to blue states restricting the purchase of semiautomatic rifles and large-capacity magazines or strengthening “red flag” measures that temporarily bar people who pose a risk from buying or possessing guns.

Meanwhile, the movement to broaden gun rights has blossomed, backed by a conservative-dominated Supreme Court, which vastly expanded the Second Amendment two years ago, and a flurry of state laws guaranteeing the right to carry concealed handguns without the need to apply for a license — now on the books in 28 states.

...

Trump’s election promises to make the burgeoning Second Amendment movement stronger.

On the campaign trail, Trump promsed to roll back the few executive-level reform efforts that President Joe Biden attempted to push through using the ATF’s rulemaking authority.

There's a lot of hemming and hawing about how maybe Trump isn't really all that pro-gun, which is probably fair, but on the same token, he's also likely to sign as much pro-gun legislation into law as he can just as a middle finger to people like the Huffington Post.

See, Trump is gloriously petty, in a lot of ways. If you cross him, he's probably going to do things just to spite you, and it's never going to be something that you tried to manipulate him into giving you, either.

What's more, he'll probably do it while you're busy freaking out over something he said or some made-up scandal that has absolutely no veracity.

So yeah, gun rights folks are pretty stoked right now. It's kind of like how The Trace probably had a kegger in their offices when it was declared that Biden won four years ago.

And, to his credit, Biden did at least some of what he said he'd do. Unfortunately, none of it seemed to be about making life better for the American people, only about trying to take guns away from people, but he at least tried to keep his word.

I'm not sure he remembered it was his word, but still...

On the same token, let's not get carried away here. There are a lot of people out there who don't favor gun rights. Republican lawmakers aren't going to go out of their way to push a gun rights agenda if it'll ultimately cost them the midterms.

What that means is that we have to advocate for what we want. We have to talk about why we support things and why our gun rights matter. We need to point out the problems with the studies claiming gun control works and all the ways we can see that those studies are either flawed or outright lies.

Once the American people are on board, an agreeable Congress can make a run on pretty much everything.

Even without it, they should still do a few things, up to and including killing all of the Biden executive orders on guns, but we need to do our part if we want to see more accomplished.
