Gruesome Twosome Introduce New Assault Weapon Ban Bill

The right to keep and bear arms is a right that is not supposed to be infringed upon. It says so right there in the Second Amendment, plain as day.

However, to paraphrase the basest superhero ever, "Some MFers just want to ice skate uphill."

The MFers in this case are the gruesome twosome of the Senate, Sens Adam Schiff and Chris Murphy.

It seems they want to revisit a failed idea and call it progress.

The failed idea? An assault weapon ban.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) joined Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and other Democrats on Wednesday to reintroduce an assault weapons ban, a proposal to prohibit the purchase and possession of high-powered semiautomatic firearms, such as the popular AR-15 rifle.

...

Schiff and his Democratic colleagues will appear with advocates from several gun-control groups, including Brady, Giffords and Newtown Action Alliance to announce the legislation at a press conference on Capitol Hill on Wednesday afternoon.

Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Ga.) will join the event.

The Democratic senators noted that mass shootings in the United States declined by 37 percent and produced fewer fatalities per event when the assault weapons ban was in effect from 1994 to 2004.

Of course, those numbers have been debunked numerous times. The Rockefeller Center for Government's factsheet on the subject shows a definite trend upward starting shortly before the ban went into effect, continuing through the ban, and then afterward.

Here's Murphy trying to sell the bill to the American people.

Of course, Murphy's claim that it's popular is from him supposedly having conversations "in the field."

I guess he never figured that people who didn't already agree with him wouldn't be interested in talking to him. Then again, Murphy isn't that smart.

Then there's Murphy's claim that these weapons are designed only to kill and belong only in the hands of the military and police. These would be the same police that his party spent years vilifying as horrible racists, just looking to gun down young, innocent black men for sport?

I'm not remotely surprised that Murphy and Schiff have opted to ignore the writings of our Founding Fathers, who made it very clear they wanted an armed population able to resist a tyrannical government. That means arms capable of resisting a modern military.

While we're not likely to be able to buy F-22s anytime soon, much less Stinger missiles, we can damn sure keep our AR-15s and AK-style weapons.

Luckily, there's not a chance in hell of this one passing.

Republicans still have control of both chambers in Congress, and even if they lose those in the midterms, Trump isn't likely to sign a bill like this. I think he could hypothetically be convinced to sign some gun control--he almost was in his first term, after all--this is going to be too far for him.

That means this is grandstanding. This is anti-gun Democrats trying to draw attention to themselves by pretending they're trying to accomplish something.

Don't get me wrong. They want this. They'd love to pass this.

But they know that it won't pass.

If they don't know this, then their intellect clearly qualifies them for handicapped parking.
