A special gun control session of the Minnesota legislature isn't great news for people in the state. Gov. Tim Walz wants gun control, as he usually does, and there is a strong likelihood that he'll get it.
But only if a few Republicans cross the lines, and a group in the state has identified just who.
A group in the state known as Action 4 Liberty has named a couple of key Republicans who need to hold the line if there's a hope in hell of defeating gun control there.
The state Senate sits with a 33-32 Democrat majority with two vacancies that are likely to bring the Senate to a 34-33 Democrat majority. The House currently sits with a 67-66 GOP majority with one vacancy that is likely to bring the House back to a 67-67 tie with Republican Lisa Demuth as Speaker. Walz is likely to call for a special session following the September 16th House special election filling Hortman’s seat. The Senate vacancies will not be filled until November.
GOP control of the Speakership and an equal number of Representatives in the state House can serve as a blockade to radical Tim Walz but only if all 67 House Republicans hold strong and refuse all gun control. Giving Socialist Attorney General ANTIFA Keith Ellison and leftist prosecutors throughout MN even more anti-gun laws will only make it more likely that regular citizens have their Rights trampled. Like was seen in the Walker Anderson case, these crooks even supports the misapplications of gun laws against law abiding citizens! If even one House Republican caves, Democrats win and the 2nd Amendment is lost in Minnesota.
It starts with House GOP leader Lisa Demuth, who has blasted gun control at public events in the recent past. She'll need to hold firm, if for no other reason than to offer no cover for other Republicans who might cross the line.
Several House RINOs stand out as people who will potentially cave on gun control based on their history of folding to Democrats on such legislation. In 2023, RINO Andrew Myers (45A) was the lone Republican to join Democrats in keeping unconstitutional background checks in SF2909 and in 2024, Myers again voted for gun control with RINO Jeff Witte (57B) in a bill that included a ban on binary triggers (HF2609).
Sources tell A4L that Andrew Myers, Danny Nadeau, and other liberal GOP Reps have privately said they will vote with the GOP caucus (against gun control). We hope to see them live up to their word.
While that sounds like good news, it only takes one to side with anti-gun Democrats on a vote. Note that these have all said they'd side with the caucus privately. No public statements they'd have to explain away should they vote for gun control.
That's worrying.
However, that's also where people in Minnesota need to step in. These representatives are just that, representatives. If they're inundated with calls from constituents telling them not to back any gun control measure, especially if those calls drastically outpace those wanting it, they're not going to vote for it.
If there's one thing politicians love, it's keeping their jobs. They're not going to intentionally vote for something that will cause people to vote them out. Some might, and damn the consequences, but most aren't. Not for something like that.
And honestly, even if some think they should vote for gun control as a matter of misguided principle, there's nothing you can do to change their minds, but you can't just assume they're in that camp.
It's imperative that Minnesotan gun owners step up and make their voices heard.
