I cannot get over just how many people in this country engage in hateful rhetoric against their ideological opponents, all while claiming those opponents are the hateful ones.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk has made it clear just how many people legitimately think like that, and it's troubling.
Especially since Kirk wasn't an elected leader. He was an activist who spoke on the issues that mattered, organized young people to create political change, and was ultimately killed because someone didn't like what he had to say.
Like a lot of people, I've drawn comparisons between Kirk and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Those seem pretty clear to me.
However, one pastor seems to think that not only is that something enraging, but what we really need to do is engage in gun control.
“How dare you compare him to MLK?,” Pastor Jamal Bryant said, rejecting the efforts to make Charlie Kirk into Martin Luther King, Jr. after his horrific assassination.
“The only thing that Charlie Kirk and Martin Luther King got in common is both of them was killed by a white man. After that, they got nothing else in common. In the Name of Jesus, I pray that you'll perform a miracle in this country, it does not necessitate turning water into wine,” the Pastor continued as he called for gun control.
“We're asking you that you will shift gun control in this country. I pray that our seniors will feel safe. I want our parents to feel safe sending their kids to school and not be alarmed fearing that there will be a school shooting like it was in Colorado on the exact same day. I pray, Dear Lord, that there will be a peace that passes all understanding.”
Roland Martin curated a collection of Black preachers across the country addressing the recent shooting of Charlie Kirk, and it really set the gaslighting straight. They emphasized the need for gun control and condemned Kirk’s divisive rhetoric, while pointing out that they can be sorry about his death, but not celebrate his life.

I find it ironic that this is a piece that tries to paint Kirk as racist, then talks about setting the gaslighting straight.
Especially since Bryant started trying to preach about gun control.
First, Kirk was proof that absolutely no level of gun control could stop so-called gun violence. He was killed with a firearm that would survive just about any gun restriction that lawmakers would currently consider. It wasn't an evil "ghost gun" or "assault weapon." It didn't have a "high capacity magazine" or anything of the type.
It was a "hunting rifle" that anti-gunners repeatedly swear they're not coming after.
And let's also look at the guns that plague our inner cities. Those are stolen firearms. They're trafficked firearms. Those aren't the result of anyone walking into a gun store, buying a firearm regardless of their history, then galavanting around the city shooting up the community. Hell, that's true of most guns we see in schools, too.
I find it disgusting that these people opted to lie about Charlie Kirk, then try to leverage his murder--by someone who agrees with these folks on a lot more issues than Kirk did--to push for a policy that would do absolutely nothing.

The comparisons to Dr. King are real and they're legitimate. Even if you didn't like what Charlie Kirk had to say, he was murdered by someone who wanted to end his ability to say it, just like what happened to Dr. King.
Gun control won't stop that. It'll never stop that.
It's vile to pretend otherwise.
Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights, even trying to use Charlie Kirk's murder to justify it as they demonize him.
