It's been amusing seeing anti-gun Democrats suddenly embracing the Second Amendment. I don't think it'll stick for any of them, mind you, but it's been funny if nothing else. I mean, when you see the gals on The View suddenly talking about gun rights, and not in a negative light, you know something weird is going on.
However, no one should really trust that these people suddenly recognized the value of the Second Amendment. They've had decades to embrace it, to recognize the reality that the government most definitely can turn tyrannical, and push for gun control even as they called every Republican they can find some variation of "Nazi."
They think we'll forget, but that's not happening.
In Georgia, the Democrats are really trying to sell this idea to gun rights groups just the same.
After a second person was killed by federal agents in Minnesota, Georgia Democratic state lawmakers said they would be willing to work with gun rights groups to protect First and Second Amendment rights in the state.
On the first full legislative day after U.S. immigration enforcement officials shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Pretti, Democrats implored their Republican colleagues to stand up against what they described as tyrannical, unconstitutional actions.
“People who are looking for the most basic stability right now in Georgia, lawful gun owners who want to believe that their rights are real, that they can go outside and won’t be killed by federal agents, and their gun used as an excuse for that, they need to know who their friends are,” said state Sen. Josh McLaurin, D-Atlanta, a candidate for lieutenant governor. “And right now, the friends of basic constitutional rights of Georgia are Georgia Democrats.”
Yeah, I'm going to call BS on that one.
Georgia Democrats have introduced numerous anti-gun bills over the years, and this is the same party that fought so hard to maintain the prohibition against carrying guns at public gatherings, which was the law up until 2008. That law would have barred someone like Pretti from bringing a gun to a protest, among other things, and is the antithesis of what they're saying now.
Pardon me if I'm skeptical about this being a real change of heart.
As it stands, we have a lot of questions about what happened with the Pretti shooting, so think everyone should hold their horses just a bit on making sweeping changes in the aftermath. Even so, if Georgia Democrats want voters like me to even remotely consider them, they need to start proving their Second Amendment credentials here and now.
Introduce and fight for legislation that's pro-gun in at least some way, shape, or form. Fight to smack down Savannah's inane attack on preemption, for example, by putting some teeth into the law itself by allowing officials to be held personally accountable for such regulations, just for example.
Do something that suggests they're actually pro-gun.
Instead, we'll see another assault weapon ban bill, an attempt to repeal constitutional carry, and other such things.
Even if we don't, inaction is far from suddenly defending the right to keep and bear arms. I'll believe they've changed when my poop turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.
Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
