When I was 12, I was interested in exploring my options with the fairer sex, trying to keep my parents off my back about school, doing the minimum in school that would still keep said parents off my back, and watching TV.
I’m not proud of a lot of it.
Regardless, the one thing I wasn’t doing was running around with guns on my hometown’s streets. Yes, I liked guns, and I wanted to go hunting with my father as an avenue for me to get to handle a firearm regularly, but criminality wasn’t among my interests. My father being a cop was a chunk of why that was true, but none of my friends had an interest in that, either.
Unfortunately, we live in a different world today, and armed kids are terrifying. It’s why a lot of Americans want more gun control.
Of course, if it worked like that, Ontario wouldn’t have this happening.
Durham Police have arrested youths – the youngest just 12-years-old – after they were seen carrying guns in the Oshawa Centre shopping centre Wednesday evening.
Police responded to an armed person call at the Oshawa Centre just before 8 p.m. Wednesday after security spotted three youths with concealed handguns.

The three pubescent suspects, aged, 12, 13 and 14, were arrested but subsequently released unconditionally to their parents.
So, two young teens and a pre-teen were walking into a shopping mall–I didn’t know those were still a thing, even in Canada–and this is the gun control paradise we’re supposed to emulate?
Seriously?
Keep in mind that Canada has put a lot of restrictions on handguns lately. Since 2022, no one can buy, sell, or otherwise transfer a handgun lawfully in the Great White North. Unless these kids somehow bought guns when they were in elementary school, they clearly got them in spite of this freeze on handgun transfers.
Why, it’s almost like gun control doesn’t work for spit. Weird, ain’t it?
I mean, if a bunch of children could get handguns, who else is getting them up there? It sure looks like their handgun freeze isn’t doing all that much, and considering how little other gun control laws up there seem to be doing, it’s a pretty good indication that gun control works about as well at keeping criminals disarmed as going out in a storm without an umbrella does a good job of keeping you dry.
Unfortunately, American anti-gunners only seem to believe in American Exceptionalism when it applies to us being able to successfully pull gun control off, where no nation has actually managed to do it before.
It would be cute if it weren’t about our civil liberties.
Actually, no, it wouldn’t be. They’d still be a pain. It would be a massive pain even if these weren't our rights, but since it is, there's nothing cute about it in the least.
I mean, three kids, one of them not even a teen, walked into a mall with handguns in a country that won’t let anyone buy or sell a handgun, despite rising violent crime rates.
If that’s not a sign you’re doing it wrong, what is?
