Gun Control Advocates Freak Out Over Some Felons Getting Gun Rights Back

As Cam noted on Wednesday, there's an issue with some criminals being turned right back onto the streets immediately after their convictions for violent crimes. They're not locked up at all, just given a suspended sentence and sent on their merry way.

Others get slap-on-the-wrist sentences, and the same people who seem to favor this are freaking out over non-violent felons.

In particular, the fact that there's a real effort underway to restore gun rights to these folks.

They're freaking out.

The Gun Control Lobby Is Panicking

Of course, the gun confiscation cartel is already melting down.

They’re claiming this will:

“Make communities less safe” and “Put guns in dangerous hands.”

But here’s what they won’t tell you: this system already existed.

And the Constitution never said: “Shall not be infringed… unless a bureaucrat says so forever.”

Keep in mind that they're saying this over a program that will require a non-violent felon who wants his gun rights restored to apply, go through a vetting process, and then be determined not to be a threat to society before they can get their rights back. It's not automatic, and that's still too much for these people.

And yeah, the system was already in place. Anti-gun lawmakers simply defunded it so no one could take advantage of it.

Yes, even as they put violent felons right back out on the street, and one of their poster boys literally said violent crime was an "artificial construct."

Let's keep in mind that the felons who are a problem are getting guns left and right. They never tried to get their gun rights back because what the law said or didn't say was irrelevant to them. They figure they're a law unto themselves and can do what they want, so they get guns and use them whenever they want. They've never been concerned about the legality of their actions before, so why would they start now?

The people who are going to take advantage of this are going to be the people who made a mistake a while back, fixed their crap, and are trying to keep on that straight and narrow path, but because the world is a scary place, they'd like to own a gun. They don't want to break the law to do it. They want to do it the right way.

In other words, they're the people who are interested in complying with all of the laws these turdnuggets have pushed for decades.

So why are they freaking out? I mean, anyone with half a brain--which, I know, might exclude much of the gun control crowd--knows that not all felons are created equal. There's a big difference between a drug kingpin and a dude who tried to get a little creative on his taxes. They might both have committed crimes, but tax evasion tends not to translate into someone becoming a hitman for the mob.

It translates them into being very, very careful with their taxes going forward.

No, the reason they're freaking out is that they've spent years trying to expand the list of prohibiting offenses, only now it looks like all that work is about to be wasted. Instead of getting DUIs put on the list, they're seeing non-violent felons getting removed from the NICS database, even if it's on a case-by-case basis.

They hate it.

They're not afraid of these people. They don't really think the social worker who, years before, bounced a check at the grocery store while trying to feed her kids and caught a felony charge is a real danger to society. Oh no, they just don't like anything that means more people can buy and own guns lawfully, because they might stop the unlawful users of firearms, and that undermines everything.
