I've written a lot about Patrick "Tate" Adamiak, a former Navy sailor who, rather than going to BUDS as he planned, is instead rotting in prison for 20 years over what sure as hell looks like bogus, trumped-up charges that never should have been allowed to stand. Lee Williams, with the Second Amendment Foundation's Investigative Journalism Project, has done amazing work outlining not just the charges but why they were wrong.
Unfortunately, Adamiak isn't having a lot of luck getting this fixed.
As it stands, his case is up for consideration before the Supreme Court, with his petition for cert filed on April 10th, but there's no guarantee that SCOTUS will agree to hear the case.
There's no reason this young man should be in prison. Every charge was wrong. He was convicted over demilled equipment, non-firing replicas that only fired a single shot after extensive modification, and for semi-automatic firearms that were perfectly legal, but looked like scary machine guns.
It was a pathetic move by the ATF, and it never should have worked, but it unfortunately did.
Now, Williams is calling on the gun rights community to step up and try to get Adamiak freed.
Currently, a package is being assembled that will be delivered to the White House. What's needed are letters. Tons and tons of letters
Here’s the two addresses to send them to:

Williams has a list of talking points that would be helpful to include, which also sum up the absolute travesty of justice Adamiak has been experiencing. Perhaps the most damning is that everything he was convicted for, every bit of evidence, is still lawfully sold online right now.
When I first saw Adamiak's conviction, I assumed it was legitimate. After all, a jury of his peers, right?
That only works if the jury can hear all the evidence, which appears not to have happened at Adamiak's trial. Some exculpatory evidence was allowed, which dodged a whole bunch of additional charges, but far too much was disallowed, and now an innocent man who just wants to serve his country is rotting in prison.
That's not how our system is supposed to work. It's all premised on the idea that it's far better to let a guilty man go free than to send an innocent man to prison, but all around us, actually guilty people are intentionally set free on a society that is desperately trying to reduce violent crime, but Adamiak gets twice the sentence of numerous other people convicted of more serious offenses with long criminal records, including drug trafficking and possession of sexually explicit material containing children.
That last guy got less time than Adamiak. Let that sink in for a good, long while.
I'm going to urge you to write your letters. Go to Williams' Substack and read what he wrote in totality, follow the directions, and work to get this innocent man out of prison.
It could easily be any of us. Don't let it be Adamiak any longer.
