The Scottish girl brandishing an axe and a big old knife in a viral video kind of took over the world and became something of a rallying point for those who oppose the UK's ridiculous immigration policies. After all, the girl in question claimed two such "immigrants" were up to nefarious things, including making sexual comments to the girl and her sister.
Well, the two were put on trial, finally, and the axe girl took the stand.
The accused have since been identified as 22-year-old Ilia Belov and 20-year-old Nadjedzha Belova; both were charged with violent offenses against a group of girls between 12 and 14 years old. The man is also accused of following four young girls, according to the BBC, but he denies the allegations.
During Belov's trial last week, the teen girl testified that the man repeatedly said, "Come here, sexy. I'll show you how to have a good time."
The girl said the remarks made her "angry," so she "turned around and shouted at him."
These are clearly children, mind you, and they made comments like that toward them. Most people would get pissed about it, but this was another teenage girl who was there and was the only one who could respond.
That's what led to the ax and knife coming out, but what irks me isn't just the offense itself, but the judge's comments to the girl while she was on the stand.
After the young girl presented her testimony, Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith — the judge presiding over the trial — told her she shouldn't have been carrying weapons in the first place.
"I hope you reflect that it's not a good idea to carry weapons in the city of Dundee," he reportedly said.
"There is no such thing as a defensive weapon; there are only offensive weapons," he added.
This was a 13-year-old girl who had comments like this thrown at her, who had just seen her sister thrown to the ground by these two, and who knew damn good and well that the system protected more than a few of these monsters.
But the judge decided that, while on the stand, it was a wonderful time to claim there's no such thing as a defensive weapon, only offensive ones.
This isn't by accident, either.
The truth is that weapons are weapons. They're neutral. They're offensive weapons if used offensively, but defensive weapons if used defensively. While I get that a lot of people are always going to be uncomfortable with children running around with weapons, the truth of the matter is that if the UK actually looked out for the kids instead of trying to hide grooming gangs, the kids might feel safe enough to not walk around like they're getting ready for an adventure in a real-life Dungeons & Dragons setting than a park in the UK.
A setting with fire-breathing dragons, goblins, and orcs would probably be safer than the UK these days.
But yeah, he opted to admonish this young girl when she was giving testimony about the two who attacked her sister and made crude comments to the girls.
Honestly, if people can be arrested for memes in the UK, can't they be arrested for sexual advances like this?
But here's the thing to remember, boys and girls. If we don't defend the Second Amendment as if our nation's very existence hangs in the balance, this could be the United States in a few years.
Think about it for a second. People are genuinely asking if we should be justified in using our firearms if someone enters our home "unarmed." Never mind that we can't know they're unarmed, nor the fact that we all have kitchen knives in our homes, potentially close to the bad guy's point of ingress, the very fact that we're supposed to refrain from protecting ourselves and ours because no visible weapons are present is how stuff started there.
It won't disappear overnight, but the way they try to demonize Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine laws throughout the nation is nothing more than an attempt to get us to precisely that point here.
And when they can frame all guns as "offensive weapons," it'll be a lot easier to ban them.
Language often influences thinking. Why do you think they want to call them "assault rifles" in the first place? Why do you think they say they're about "gun safety" or "violent crime prevention" instead of what they really want?
It will come to us here if we're not very careful.
Dig in.
