Numbers can be fascinating. I suck at math, for the most part, but I am always fascinated with statistics regarding different things. Numbers don't tell the entire tale, but they can tell you an awful lot.
It's also interesting which numbers get used sometimes, such as "gun death" statistics rather than using the homicide rate, but that's a topic for another day. Today, we need to talk about the Big Apple.
We need to talk about it because there are some numbers coming out of there that are oddly interesting, but the big questions are left unanswered.
The number of teens busted with guns in NYC has skyrocketed 19% this year, even as cops see some gains in the plague of youth violence, new data show.
There have been 423 kids under age 18 arrested so far this year compared to 355 in the same period in 2025, NYPD data show.
There were 76 juveniles shot so far this year, a 19% decrease compared to the same period in 2025 when 93 were shot.
This year’s tally, 76, is down slightly from 2024, when 78 were shot, according to the data.
The number of young shooters is down 11% this year, with 83 shooting another person so far this year compared to 93 during the same period of 2025, the data show.
But the number of juveniles pulling the trigger is up 6% so far this year over two years ago, to 83 from 78, according to the data.
The fact that arrests when up 19 percent, while the number of juveniles shot dropped 19 percent is fascinating. However, it's also likely coincidence. Look at the raw numbers for a moment. It's unlikely that the additional 19 percent of arrests were all caught on their way to shoot the reduced 19 percent of victims. That makes about as much sense as getting diet advice from Jabba the Hutt.
The question that doesn't seem to be asked, though, is what's really fascinating to me.
If New York has such extensive gun control laws, and gun control laws work, then just how in the hell did juveniles get firearms in the first place?
"Oh, those were smuggled in from states with fewer 'gun safety' laws on the books!" someone will undoubtedly argue, which would work if New York didn't have universal background checks. I mean, if those work to prevent criminals from being armed, then just how would guns coming from other states bypass them if they actually work?
They can't.
By definition, criminals don't obey laws unless it's in their interest to do so. Obeying the speed limit so they don't get pulled over, they might do, but following a gun law simply because it's the law? Only an idiot would think otherwise.
So, again, where did children get guns if the state's much-touted gun control laws work as designed?
I'm waiting for an answer that's not a rehash of what I addressed above, though I know there won't be one. That's because the answers are irrelevant to them. Many of them don't actually care about crime. They care about taking our rights, and will use anything they can to justify it. Meanwhile, when the data works against them, they just pretend that it doesn't and soldier on.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
