James Talarico is an alarming candidate for Democrats in Texas to nominate. After all, he's like a less manly Beto O'Rourke, and considering how beta Beto is, that's saying something. He's easily one of the most leftist candidates out there, and the thin veneer of Christianity he wears isn't enough to convince voters he's one of them, yet he's alarmingly close to Attorney General Ken Paxton in the polls.
So, it's a good place for some groups to throw a little money at maintaining an important seat in the Senate.
Enter the National Rifle Association.
Today, the NRA Victory Fund Inc. released a new 30-second ad highlighting Democrat U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico’s longstanding support for banning so-called “assault weapons” and standard-capacity magazines—the firearms and accessories owned by millions of law-abiding Texans.
The ad is one component of the NRA’s multi-million dollar investment to retain pro-gun majorities in Congress ahead of the November midterm elections. It is running in conjunction with the NRA’s Gun Bus battleground tour and the organization’s conventional get-out-the-vote operation, which includes millions of the world-famous NRA Orange Cards, targeted text messages, and door-knocking efforts across Texas and other battleground states.
The ad, titled “Yes Absolutely,” features Talarico’s own words. In a 2020 video, Talarico endorsed a ban on assault weapons and commonly owned magazines. When asked more recently on NewsNation whether an assault weapons ban remains “on the table,” he replied simply: “Absolutely.”
“James Talarico has been coming for our guns for years,” the ad states. “He would outlaw the most popular firearms in Texas… With control of the Senate up for grabs, Talarico sides with the most radical gun grabbers in Washington. Don't be left defenseless. Vote like your rights depend on it. Defeat James Talarico.”
Honestly, Talarico would be a trainwreck on guns, and I think we all know it. The same guy who thinks God is non-binary, rather than just beyond our understanding, is someone who doesn't seem to believe in foundational documents, anyway. Every bit of his version of Woke Christianity, which isn't Christianity, ignores The Bible itself. Why would he do anything that might be construed as respecting the Second Amendment?
While it's possible that even if Talarico wins, no assault weapon ban will happen, it's only going to be because the Supreme Court already lowered the hammer, and even then, someone like him will be more than eager to exploit any crack in the decision. We know this because we've seen less concerning lawmakers do it — note that less concerning isn't the same as not concerning at all — and so he'll most definitely be part of that.
The NRA has a real reason to keep Talarico out of office, and there's no downside here.
Paxton has his issues, which aren't helping here, but he's also the one who can be trusted on gun rights. Reminding pro-gun voters in Texas of this is smart, because the only ones who will be bothered by this are the people who wouldn't vote for Paxton no matter what was going on. They'd probably vote for Trump over Paxton, so who cares if they feel more alienated?
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
