San Antonio Paper's Reason for Not Backing Herrera Hilarious

Humor is subjective. I have a supremely dark sense of humor where little is considered off-limits. That's off-putting to some people, so I try to adjust my joking around to the group I'm with at the time, but if I were making comedy as part of a content creation strategy, I'd probably go with what amuses the hell out of me and my audience.

Which is precisely why I like Brandon Herrera's content too much. Not only does he know the guns he's talking about, but he talks about them in a funny way.

Yet they're still comedy.

That's too much for the San Antonio Express-News, though.

One question San Antonians will answer this election is whether a candidate like Brandon Herrera, the Republican nominee for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, reflects our community’s values.

Herrera, a YouTuber and gun rights enthusiast who goes by the “AK Guy,” has a long history of crass and vulgar comments. He has joked about Nazis, veteran suicide and even once characterized a child as a “c*m trophy.”

If you are cringing, so are we. And he might very well represent San Antonio.

The editorial board goes on to argue that Katy Padilla Stout, the Democrat candidate in the race, knows the issues. That's amazing, because I have yet to see her show it. Instead, her entire campaign seems centered around little else beyond not being Herrera.

It's laughable.

And it's worth noting that they don't address a single policy of Herrera's that they disagree with, nor do they get into specifics as to what Stout has to offer beyond vague mentions of issues, but zero policy.

Someone should probably remind them that newspapers don't carry the prestige they once did and, as a result, no one actually cares who the San Antonio Express-News endorses. Especially since we know it was always going to be the Democrat.

Still, I expected them to offer at least something akin to substance, even if it was absolute nonsense.

Instead, we get this.

Honestly, if there was something of substance there, I'd probably just make fun of it on X, then move on. No, this one irked me something fierce, in part because there's nothing.

Look, everyone knows who I stand by. I've mentioned before I have purchased exactly one piece of campaign merchandise in my life, and it's from Herrera's campaign. I'm a fan. I'm biased and I don't pretend otherwise.

The editorial board here simply doesn't like Herrera's form of comedy, which is fine. He's not trying to appeal to the kind of people who might shoot an AR-15, then claim it gave them PTSD. No, he's going to make fun of those people.

And, for the record, that "veteran suicide" joke they keep going on about? That was hilarious to me, and as a veteran myself, anyone offended on my behalf needs to step off. There's nothing to be offended by since it's both funny and accurately brings up the issue of veteran suicide.

Then again, Stout doesn't have anything to offer other than a massive campaign grocery bill. (No, that's not a fat joke.)
