Glocks are probably the most popular handgun brand in the United States. Sure, some people aren't fans, but a lot of people buy them. Since one Glock is pretty much the same as another in all but some details, there's no reason not to lump them all together when talking about Glocks unless there's a particular reason not to, like why someone carries this model over that model.

What Glock has done is made a reliable, affordable handgun. It's the Toyota Camry of the gun world. It's not flashy, but it won't let you down, either.

Unfortunately, someone decided that Glock's design lent itself to being converted and developed an auto sear for the handguns. Glock had nothing to do with this and, to my knowledge, never sold a single such switch ever.

Still, the switches exist and since you can't stop the signal, people make them.

Now, Delaware is just the latest state to file a lawsuit against the Austria-based firearm manufacturer.

Delaware is taking gun maker Glock to court. Attorney General Kathleen Jennings has filed a civil lawsuit that claims the company's handguns can be turned into illegal machine guns with very little effort.

The lawsuit names both Glock, Inc. and Glock Ges.m.b.H. It was filed under a Delaware law called the Keshall "KeKe" Anderson Safe Firearm Sales Act.

At the center of the case are small parts known as "Glock switches." The State claims these cheap devices can quickly change a Glock pistol into a weapon that fires up to 1,200 rounds per minute.

According to the lawsuit, Glock has known for decades that its pistol design allows this kind of change. The State says the company chose not to add safety features that would stop it.

The State also claims Glock kept selling these pistols to civilians. That went on, the lawsuit says, while police across the country were reporting more violence involving converted Glock handguns.

Jennings did not hold back when talking about the case.

"For decades, some gun manufacturers have hidden behind the myth that their industry has no moral consequences, that their stake in our communities ends at the cash register, and that they are neutrals in the war between law enforcement and gun violence. Those days are over," said Attorney General Jennings. "Our communities, and communities across America, are being terrorized by weapons with destructive power never intended or legal for civilian use. Glock knew. They could have acted. They chose profit over people."

The thing is, Glock may have known this was possible, but that doesn't mean it was its responsibility to do something about it. The switches count as a machine gun under the National Firearms Act. There are reportedly a few that are legally transferable somehow, but almost all of the ones in circulation are switches that someone made explicitly for the illicit market.

How is it Glock's fault that a third party developed these switches, third parties build them, third parties sell them, and third parties put them on Glock-style handguns? I mean, because keep in mind that many so-called ghost guns are Glock-style firearms, they're not responsible for what everyone does with one.

And we've already delved into how these are really aren't the issue they're being made out to be, anyway.

The truth of the matter is that this lawsuit isn't about so-called Glock switches. It's about punishing Glock for not scuttling a proven design because of an action that's illegal to undertake. It's about trying to make the company hurt, possibly putting it out of business in the United States, just because Glock wouldn't bend the knee.

It's what all of these lawsuits are about.
