A few days ago, I wrote about how California gun control failed to stop someone from shooting at FBI agents. That story made the point pretty well that gun control doesn't accomplish much, but it's still just one story out of thousands. We're not going to cover all of them just to make our point, but the truth is that it would be easy to see this as an isolated incident.
Sadly, it's not.
The latest high profile example comes from Monterey County, where four people just got shot on a beach.
Four people were shot, two of them fatally, Monday just after 2:00 a.m. on the beach in Moss Landing, California.
KSBW quoted Monterey County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Andres Rosas describing what responding officers discovered: “Upon their arrival, they were able to locate two victims. Tragically, those two victims were declared deceased here on the scene.”
Two more victims went to the hospital, neither of which is believed to have suffered life-threatening wounds.
Police don't appear to have a suspect as of yet.
KSBW also quoted Rosas as saying that police aren't actually sure what happened here.
Investigators have not yet classified the deaths or determined a motive for the shooting.
"We're not calling this a homicide. We haven't confirmed if this is a homicide or a suicide or any other type of death. We have not made that declaration yet," Rosas said. "We are investigating the circumstances under which these individuals died as a result of gunshot wounds here at the scene."
A teen who visited the beach Monday afternoon to retrieve his cell phone said there had been a pop-up party with no more than 30 attendees when gunfire erupted, causing everyone to scatter.
No arrests have been made, and authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding Moss Landing community.
"At this time, we do not believe that there is anybody that was related to this, that is related to this, that is still in this immediate area or that there was ever any threat to the surrounding community of Moss Landing," Rosas said.
Now, it's interesting that you have yet another large gathering, and four people get shot.
I'm not saying that we should end large gatherings. That's unconstitutional, at least to some degree. I'm just pointing out how some of us might have had a fistfight at a party, but no one got shot.
Then again, officials aren't sure what happened, so I shouldn't read too much into it.
What we do know is that California has the most extensive gun control laws in the country. They have ammo control laws that were supposed to stop bad actors from being able to load a firearm, much less use one. Clearly, that hasn't worked as described.
Regardless of the motivations here, the state's gun control mechanisms failed to prevent it, just like they fail to prevent thousands of other armed offenses each and every week. Gun control doesn't work, but that's also the beauty of it. When it fails, the answer is always more gun control. There's never a point where someone who favors it says, "You know, this isn't working. We should try something different."
And that's the problem with it, because we know they'll never stop.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
