The ammunition shortage isn’t just affecting civilians—it’s also forcing some law enforcement departments to find alternatives in training sessions.

Lt. Louie Tirona, a firearms and tactics instructor for the Richmond Police Department switched from using live ammunition to professional-grade airsoft guns in training drills. “Everybody is fighting for what seems like a shrinking about of ammunition out there,” he told The Washington Times. ““If we get to a situation where we’re low on ammunition, we can do simple drills with airsoft that would mimic what we would do with live fire.”

Other departments are also using airsoft as an alternative to maintain skills.
