Folks, meet “Lucien Black.”
According to his Facebook bio, this Fayetteville State University Sociology student has quite the tactical background.
“Lucien” runs a company out of Fayetteville called “VODA Consulting,” which has recently come to the attention of many in the firearms training community for what we’ll charitably describe as “a unique training atmosphere.”
You can see some of that “unique training atmosphere” in the following video annotated by the fine folks at Practically Tactical, who consider VODA Consulting’s training as going “full potato.”
Yes, in one video less than five minutes long, VODA Consulting’s trainer and students point guns at one another no less than a dozen times, typically with their fingers on the trigger of their guns. They have other videos, but I’m not about to watch them, as I don’t think it’s good for my health to be constantly cringing.
Many have attempted to find out what credentials “Lucien” has, but he’s not talking.
I wonder why that is.
Update: “Lucien” Black does not exist. The NRA Training Division has already suspended the credentials of a man with a different first name with his contact information.
Mr. Black has also drawn the attention of the North Carolina Department of Justice via several concerned (legitimate) firearms instructors, and we rather strongly suspect he’ll be losing his N.C. Concealed Carry Instructor certification soon, if he hasn’t already.
Update:
Therivil (still calling himself “Lucien Black”) sent the following via Facebook Messenger last night:
we would appreciate if you stop writing articles because you really have no idea what exactly we do other then whats on the videos. so let me try to be your friend, im a sociologist (M.A.) working on a Ph.D. we are the only ones in north carolina that requires 9 batteries of written test, law, nomenclature, research, real world manipulation, laser guided training, preemptive mindset training, in order to qualify for a conceal carry certification the client must successfully shoot at the 3, 5,7,9,15,20,and 25 yards on a target that is only 30 percent of what the standard is for north carolina. please stop because we also keep detailed records of ALL of our clients. even when our clients complete the conceal carry session they have access to all nc law and updates, and we also go with them to pick up their firearm from a reputable dealer to ensure they are getting the best quality firearm possible within their budget. not only that we do it for free! if you don’t like the high standard in which we train please simply change channels.as a professional im asking you to stop.
